Well, Arabella is over the flu, and now Giselle has it. But once she's better, we'll be done with the flu for this year (hopefully!) And with any luck, we'll get through summer healthy...
Other things going on around here:
All the goats have had their babies--5 girls, 1 boy this time. I'm planning on checking out the local auction this weekend and then selling some of my goats the following weekend.
It has been so wet here that everyone is having trouble getting their gardens in. The potatoes I planted are being slow in coming up. I thought maybe it was because I had planted in the wrong moon sign, but found out that everyone else is having the same trouble, so I guess it is the weather. I'm going to get my cold frame box planted this week (beets, carrots, Malabar spinach) but the garden is far too wet to till right now.
I FINALLY finished the bookcase that is part of the island between the kitchen and the dining room. Now I can get the encyclopedias off my dining table and onto shelves. And I can start working towards a functional kitchen. I still haven't finished the bathroom...I need to do the finish work on the floor and install the baseboards...and I just keep procrastinating. Sigh. I have to get to it soon, though. Summer will be here before I know it and washtub baths won't cut it then.
Corn has gone up again. Six months ago, 50# of cracked corn sold for right at $6. Two or three months ago, the feed mill raised the price to $8.70 per 50# cracked. Two days ago, I went to buy corn and it was up to $9.10. That's 50% inflation in just 6 months. I'm hoping I get a good corn crop in this year, because otherwise I don't know how I'm going to be able to over-winter all my goats.
Other than that, not much to tell. Just keep your eyes on the news; things are going to start get interesting quickly, now.
